HOBY Korea to hold Youth International Environmental Laws and Agreements Proposal Essay Contest

<GJCNEWS=Kim in-sik Repoter>HOBY Korea has announced that it will hold 'The 1st Youth International Environmental Laws and Agreements Proposal Essay Contest'.

 

Recently discussion of global climate change concerns have reintensified with millions demanding the end of fossil fuels and environmental justice for all.

 

To deal with this global crisis, more effective laws and regulations are being made by various world organizations and developed countries, including Europe and the United States. At the same time, many nations around the world are now enforcing more stricter environmental policies.

 

In line with this growing awareness, HOBY Korea and Organizing Committee of Environmental Law will hold 'The 1st Youth International Environmental Laws and Agreements Proposal Essay Contest' under the theme of "How to Strengthen the Environmental Laws and Treaties and Promote Sustainable Growth."

 

HOBY Korea representative states, "We hope that young people around the world will be able to better understand the basic environmental laws and agreements, and will be able to propose ways for countries, business, and people to sustain growth while protecting earth".

 

Individuals or teams of two may apply to the contest. Applicants should be between the age of 13 to 18.

 

The proposal essay will be accepted from December 10, 2019 to January 5, 2020, and the winners will be announced at 4 pm on February 1, 2020 Korean Standard Time.

 

The first prize winner or team winners will receive a full scholarship and an opportunity to take part in the HOBY World Leadership Congress (WLC 2020), which is scheduled to take place on the campus of Loyola University Chicago in Chicago, Illinois, USA from July 26 to August 1, 2020. All applicants will receive a certificate of participation and HOBY's eco-friendly prizes.

 

In addition, students who continues to actively participate in this environmental campaign on or offline after the contest will receive recognition certificate from HOBY Korea.

 

According to HOBY Korea, the essay may discuss subjects such as enforcement of stricter environmental laws and regulations by various countries around the world, the forecast of more effective legislations in response to the global climate change, the proposal of new legislation to government to better deal with global climate change, the introduction of new political agenda or legislation at international level, or the suggestion of other means of maintaining sustainable growth.

 

The panel of judges will be professors from Seoul University, KAIST, and other notable universities as well as professionals from international organizations. Judging criteria will be of the following : 40% ability to propose specific alternatives and ideas ; 30% understanding of international environmental laws and treaties ; 20% recognizing problems to be addressed ; 10% conformity of content.
